IHMA Company Profile – Tin Dan

The International Hologram Manufacturers Association (IHMA) is made up of the world’s leading hologram suppliers and manufacturers. The companies that make up the association come in all shapes and sizes and are distributed across the globe, which Holography News® reflects in this series of member profiles.

In this episode, HN shines a spotlight on Vietnamese security solution supplier Tin Dan (TDN). The company, based in Ho Chi Minh City, has been instrumental for some 15 years in helping businesses push back against the effects of counterfeiting in various industries in Vietnam such as the food, jewellery and pharmaceutical sectors.

The economic situation in Vietnam in 2000s was complicated. While still holding on to many of the vestiges of a planned economy, the country saw growth in household businesses and small-scale entrepreneurship. It saw decent rates of increase in its Gross Domestic Product, which peaked in 2007 (8.5%) but declined in 2008 (6.3%) and 2009 (5.3%)1. The corresponding episodic rise and fall in household incomes, opening of international trade, and an aspirant class of consumers interested in buying global (and domestic) brands fuelled the increase in the informal economy – and counterfeiting in particular.
