Patent of the Month

The IHMA Patent Newsletter is a monthly review of patents issued in the fields of security, decorative and data storage holography, along with holographic techniques, processes and displays.

In the ‘Holography Process’ category of July’s edition of the IHMA Patent Newsletter, more than 90 patents are listed, including Korea Electronics Technology Institute’s disclosure of a three-dimensional image rendering method for holographic printing.

The patent describes a printer that creates a three-dimensional image using two separate frustrums at the front and rear of the printer that render a volume by generating hogels. Accordingly, a hologram can be generated and printed so that three-dimensional images intended to be shown can be continuously dispensed from the rear side to the front side of a holographic film, thus making it possible to maximise the three dimensionality and realism of the hologram being played back.
